Leonora House, Maida Vale – extra care
Leonora House is the second new-build extra care home for Octavia Support. Located in the Maida Vale Conservation Area, the original 1960s four-storey building contained a large number of small studio flats without lift access and constructed in a way that made its conversion into wheelchair accommodation impossible. The new building, which was completed in January 2010, provides 21 self-contained ‘wheelchair-friendly’ flats together with associated communal facilities and a replacement day centre, named the Harris Centre, for Age Concern Westminster.
Three years after completion, following the withdrawal of funding, the day centre was converted into a separate dementia wing with high-dependency, wheelchair-standard accommodation for five people.
