Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. A new build scheme for a charity that provides accommodation for families of children who are patients at the hospital, it achieves a domestic scale appropriate to the users. The communal nature of the accommodation provides a mutually supportive environment for parents and carers while their children are undergoing frequently stressful treatment.
A similar scheme involving the conversion of 3 derelict Edwardian houses into a spacious modern facility has also been completed at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.
