Barton Road, Cambridge

The extension to a 1970’s detached house, the scheme seeks to provide a contemporary solution.

At first floor level the douglas fir clad bathroom “box” projects over the main entrance, providing a shelter and focus to the front elevation, at which point there are clear views through the house to the rear garden beyond. Inside, the exterior is reflected in the sculptural use of form, to produce a light and airy environment. Clear glazed panels, wood-block floors and timber joinery elements combine to enhance the style of the existing dwelling.
